In 1962 Marvel Comics released Amazing Fantasy, №15, the last issue in the series, featuring the very first appearance of Spiderman. The comic originally cost 12 cents. In 2011 a comic book collector paid a reported $1.1 million for the right to own a copy.

Thomas Jefferson was said to be America’s first wine connoisseur. Before becoming president he was Minister to France in 1785 until the start of the French Revolution. This particular bottle was found behind a bricked up cellar wall in an old building in France. Its preservation was near perfect. There are almost no preserved examples of 18th century wines, so the 1787 bottle of LaFite with the initials “Th. J.” was a great find for the world of wine enthusiasts.

The bottle sold at auction to the son of the Forbes magazine empire for $157,000, the highest price ever paid for a bottle of wine.

You never know what you might find at that next yard sale. During the summer of 2007 in New York State a small white bowl was purchased for a mere $3. Little did the buyer know, and would soon discover, the Chinese porcelain bowl was 1,000 years old and eventually sold at auction for $2.2 million.

9. Collectible Cars

One of the longest cars in the world is also one of the most expensive. The 1931 Bugatti Type 41 Coupe, also known as The Royale, measured 21 feet from bumper to bumper. It featured a massive 12.7 liter V8. It sold at auction in 1987 for $9.7 million, worth more than $20 million in todays dollars. It was sold again in 2001 to an anonymous buyer. Only 6 were ever produced.

Ferraris are one of the most collectible cars for the rich and famous looking to make an investment. For example a 1964 Ferrari 275 GTB/C Speciale sold for $26.4 million at auction in 2015. Ferraris make up 22 of the top 30 most expensive cars ever sold.
